Orca Conservancy Partners with GroundSwell to Save Southern Residents

GroundSwell and Orca Conservancy create a monumental Super-Pod.  Announcing a Limited-Edition #BeTheirVoice Debit Card.

GroundSwell, the Washington State-based social purpose corporation, has partnered with Orca Conservancy, the Seattle-based nonprofit organization committed to the welfare and recovery of Orcinus orca, the killer whale, and protecting the wild places on which they depend. Together, we have created a limited-edition #BeTheirVoice debit card. Proceeds from the #BeTheirVoice debit card supports Orca Conservancy’s work in recovering Chinook salmon, the primary food source of the endangered Southern Resident killer whale population that frequently inhabit the inland waters of Washington State and British Columbia.

With the new #BeTheirVoice debit card, anyone can make regular, crucial donations which will immediately go towards assisting with the recovery of the critically endangered Southern Resident killer whale population — without cost to themselves — or to Orca Conservancy.

A Monumental Super Pod 

As supporters sign up and use the #BeTheirVoice debit card, 1% of their total purchases will go towards funding vital salmon habitat restoration, which ultimately will increase the food supply needed for endangered Southern Resident killer whale population recovery.

The #BeTheirVoice card is a standard Visa debit card. There are no monthly fees, no credit check, and supporters can keep their existing bank accounts. The process is simple. Just order the card through GroundSwell and, after activating the card with the GroundSwell app, funds will load automatically onto your #BeTheirVoice card. Life After Hate to Receive the First Shop & Support Cards

WASHOUGAL, Wash. (August 17, 2018) – GroundSwell today announced Chicago-based nonprofit, Life After Hate as its inaugural program partner. Through the partnership, Life After Hate supporters will receive a custom branded prepaid Visa debit card that raises money for the organization with every purchase they make. The new program officially launched June 15th, and Life After Hate supporters have already begun receiving their GroundSwell cards.

Founded in 2011 by former members of the violent American far-right movement, Life After Hateworks to counter racism and violent extremism in America through powerful stories of transformation and guide those who want to leave the lifestyle behind.

Company announces final $1 million investment round for public launch this fall.

WASHOUGAL, Wash. — GroundSwell, a Washington State social purpose corporation based in Washougal, Wash., is shaking up the philanthropic world with a sustainable revenue-sharing approach designed for nonprofit organizations. This month, the company–whose mission is to sustainably fund organizations that make the world a better place–kicked off its final round of investment crowdfunding to raise $1 million for its public launch this fall.

“Other companies, banks, and credit unions offer traditional debit cards. We created GroundSwell because we saw a better way to put technology, banking, and philanthropy together,” said Dr. Daniel Rubano, co-founder  and CEO. “To date, we have raised more than a million dollars, and are now in our final phase of fundraising to allow everyone to become part of this movement and support our public launch this fall.”

Money on a Mission

Each time we swipe our credit or debit card, a transaction fee is generated, providing more than $60 billion in revenue to banks. Licensed as a bank, GroundSwell’s business model redirects these fees from big banks back and shares them with partner nonprofits through customized Visa debit card programs. Each time a card is used to make a purchase, the profits generated from the processing fees are shared with the nonprofit partner.

The result is a sustainable revenue stream that helps address the needs of the 1.5 million nonprofits that are underfunded, according to the National Center for Charitable Statistics. Nonprofit members’ Visa debit cards act just like a checking account, with no credit checks, fees, or interest, and are FDIC insured.
